ANNOUNCEMENTS - November 14

CONGRATS to the Men and Women Cross Country teams on their outstanding performance this past weekend at the OSAA State Championships.

The Men finished 3rd in STATE…congrats to:

Ben Balazs, Collin Beyer, David Cummings, Carson Cummins, Mason Gerwig, Alex King, Ben Nichols

The Women finished 5th in STATE…congrats to:

Lucy Huelskamp, Kate Dobson, Eva McIlraith, Smhita Tovinkere, Jasmoine Wang, Paige Wiley

Sunset junior - Eireann Coelho will perform in the Portland Ballet’s annual holiday production with Tom Gold’s Petrushka and John Clifford’s Firebird. Performances: Nov. 29-Dec. 1, at PSU Lincoln Hall.  Tickets at the portlandballet.org or 503-452-8448.

TEDX Youth Portland will feature to Sunset Students Saturday, November 16,  9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Vedanth Iyer

´╗┐Vedanth is a junior at Sunset High School where he is the President of the Science Fair Club and the Founder of the Breakthrough Junior Challenge Club. He is passionate about science research. Vedanth wanted to find a cost effective solution for improving rechargeable lithium ion batteries and has discovered high energy and efficient battery materials using Computational Quantum Mechanics. He has been recognized nationally for his research and is currently working with Caltech and OSU. He will be speaking about turning rejection into success through his experience as a young scientist and how science has revolutionized the society we live in today. 

 

Aarna Dixit

Aarna is a junior at Sunset High School where she is involved with student leadership and many clubs-four of which she holds a leadership position in. Out of these clubs, the one she is most passionate about is Students Against Sexual Oppression, a small part of the non-profit organization she founded sophomore year. Besides activism, public speaking is a passion of hers. Outside of school, she is on the Planned Parenthood Teen Council and a crisis volunteer for the OR Youthline. She will be speaking about her advocacy around sexual violence as an ally, and the issue itself.

Congratulations to the Sunset Marching Band and Color Guard.  1st place-AA Prelims, 7th place overall in finals at the Festival of Bands at Autzen Stadium in Eugene on Saturday, November 2.
